The European Commission believes it is not a good time to suspend American and Canadian citizens’ right to enter EU states without a Visa, given that the two countries don’t apply the same facilities to Romania and four other EU member states. The EU has thus temporarily denied Romania’s request to apply reciprocity rules between EU Member States and third countries such as Canada and the US. The request was aimed at eventually making it easier for Romanian nationals to enter the US and Canada.

“The Commission believes that, at this stage, it would not be appropriate to suspend the exemption from the visa requirement for certain categories of nationals of the third countries concerned,” reads an EC report.
