EC: Resource efficiency in Romania is low
Resource efficiency in Romania is low, circular economy remains underdeveloped, and the levels of recycling and composting are below the European average, according to a report of the European Commission on implementing the EU’s environmental policies in the member states.
The resource productivity in Romania was one of the lowest in the EU, amounting to EUR 0.31 per kg compared to the EU average of EUR 2 per kg.
According to the report, Romania has very low levels of recycling and composting, with only 16% of the waste generated in the country being recycled or turned into compost, compared to the EU average of 44%. Most of the waste in Romania is deposited in landfills.
The EC document states that the conservation status of protected species is inappropriate in 67% of the cases and favorable in only 19% of them.
