EC: Romania needs to compensate for tax relaxation
The European Commission understands Romania’s measures on fiscal relaxation, but it wants to make sure that it takes compensatory measures, said Angela Filote, head of the European Commission's Representation to Romania.
The country needs compensatory measures to remain one of the most stable and fiscally disciplined countries in the EU.
The European Commission wants to be sure that Romania, which has made considerable progress, can maintain its macroeconomic stability, Filote said, reports local Wall-street.ro.
Romania should endorse these measures, even if they are not binding. Reforms are successful only if they enjoy the support of the member state’s government.
The EC has decided not to include among its country recommendations those already covered by other cooperation forms between Romania and the EC, including the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism.
