EC finances Sibiu-Sighisoara road rehabilitation in Romania
The European Commission (EC) approved on September 28 the payment of EUR 40.7 million to Romania from the European Regional Development Fund, for the rehabilitation of the National Road 14 (DN14), which connects Sibiu and Sighisoara, two of Romania’s most visited cities.
The funding is part of the 2007-2013 Operational Programme for Transport. The project involved the rehabilitation of about 80 km of the national road between Sibiu and Sighisoara, via Medias. The project’s total value reached EUR 47.9 million, 85% of which came from the European Regional Development Fund.
The number of accidents on this road section should go down by 10% following its rehabilitation, according to the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu. Drivers should also be able to get from one city to another faster.
