Education Minister: Romania has too few students
Romania has too few students and is unlikely to achieve 40% university graduates among its population aged 30-34, which is the target for 2020, said Education Minister Remus Pricopie.
Romania will probably only reach about 26% of the target by 2020, from the current level of 20%. About half a million students go to university in Romania this university year, which started yesterday, while the rate of employment among university graduates is the highest of recent years, said the minister.
About 300 study programs closed down in the last two years, by university decision, triggered by the lack of demand from youth and from the labor market. However, new programs opened up at the request of employers, the minister added.
