07 May 2010

Romania's final electricity consumption has increased in the first quarter of the year by 3 percent, to 13.2 billion Kwh, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The evolution of a country's electricity consumption is usually one of the indicators of economic evolution.

The country's energy resources however went down by 3.4 percent in Q1 compared to the same period of last year, to 15.7 billion Kwh, a decline which was mainly fueled by the drop in energy production. The biggest drop in energy production was accounted by thermal power plants, which was down 8 percent.
