Almost three quarters of employees in Romania earn less than EUR 380 per month
Almost three quarters (71.5%) of the employees in Romania have monthly net salaries of less than RON 1,700 (EUR 380 per month), according to official data from the Labor Ministry published by local financial newspaper Ziarul Financiar.
Moreover, 44% of the employees in Romania make less than RON 1,000 (EUR 220) per month, the same statistics show. Romania has 4.75 million employees.
The average net wage in Romania was RON 1,950 (EUR 433), in February this year, while the minimum net wage increased to RON 925 (EUR 205) starting May 1, 2016. The average net wage in the European Union is around EUR 1,470.
Only about 100,000 employees in Romania (2.1% of the total) make more than RON 6,000 (EUR 1,330) per month.
Romania lacks a long-term policy to attract and keep investments that create high-paying jobs, according to specialists.
