Ericsson prepares Romanian telecom group for 5G implementation
Romanian telecom operator RCS & RDS has selected Swedish group Ericsson’s local subsidiary to upgrade its mobile network in Romania and prepare it for the 5G technology.
Ericsson will begin implementing the project in December. The process will take several years and it will mainly focus on the network covering Bucharest and other large cities in Romania.
Ericsson will replace the existing equipment in the Digi network with the latest radio equipment in its portfolio, equipment that can support NarrowBand-IoT (NB-IoT) and 5G technologies.
The contract also includes the implementation of access points based on the Ericsson Radio System (ERS), which can support 3G and 4G services, while preparing the 5G network. The new solution will also support Internet All Things (IoT) services.
This marks the first collaboration between RCS & RDS and Ericsson.
Romanian Govt. will launch auction to sell 5G licenses next year
