Estimation: Tourists spent EUR 3.5 mln during May 1 short holiday in Romania

Almost 95,000 tourists spent EUR 3.5 million during the May 1 mini holiday, down 20% compared to 2015, according to data issued by the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employers (FPTR).

Meanwhile, the other employers’ organisation in the tourism sector, which is called the National Association of Tourism Agencies (ANAT), estimated yesterday that some 40,000 Romanians went to the seaside during this period.

In Mamaia, the hotel occupation rate reached 90%, according to FPTR. Hotels managed to sell 14,000 seats out of 23,000 classified seats.

The guesthouses located in rural areas across Romania managed to attract over 40,000 tourists, according to FPTR. The most popular areas were Bran, Bucovina and Maramures.

In the rural areas, accommodation prices varied between RON 40-300 (EUR 9-66) per person.
