Ethan Hawke attends 'Before Midnight' premiere in Romania, supports OvidiuRo's early education programs

27 June 2013

Actor Ethan Hawke attended the premiere of his newest movie Before Midnight in Romania yesterday (June 26), where he also promoted early education, a cause which is being supported by his mother, Leslie Hawke, via the foundation OvidiuRo. The film screening was organized by OvidiuRo and all revenues from selling tickets went to supporting kindergarten education for the poor in Romania. Before Midnight will be screened across Romanian cinemas starting Friday, June 28 - stay tuned for our review of the movie on Romania-Insider.com.

Hawke, who also attended a press conference before the film screening, talked about his eldest daughter's dyslexia, and that if she were from a poor family, "everyone would assume she was stupid."

The actor said he is "affected by children whether it is in New York or Romania."

Before Midnight is the third part of a series which includes 1995's Before Sunrise and 2004's Before Sunset. The film is directed by Richard Linklater and Hawke's co-star is Julie Delpy.

Asociatia OvidiuRo’s co-founders, Romanian teacher Maria Gheorghiu and American volunteer Leslie Hawke launched the program Every Child in Kindergarten in 2010, which led to an increase in the number of poor children from Romanian villages attending pre-school and kindergarten on a daily basis. The NGO provides meal vouchers for the families whose children attend kindergarten every day.
