EU may grant Romania EUR 800 mln for beach rehabilitation
The European Union may approve a big financing this year for a project to combat coastal erosion and rehabilitate the touristic beaches in the southern region of the Romanian Black Sea coast.
The total cost of this project amounts to EUR 800 million, said Gheorghe Boeru, president of Romair, the company that has supervised a similar project for the beaches in Mamaia and Constanta, with a total value of EUR 170 million, reports local Agerpres.
Boeru added that this would be the biggest EU funded project approved in Romania this year. The project includes rehabilitation work on 36 kilometers of coast, from Constanta to Vama Veche.
Gheorghe Boeru is a controversial Romanian investor. He has been a key character in several corruption cases investigated by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in the past years, including those targeting former Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s brother in law and Bucharest District 1 mayor Andrei Chiliman, according to Rise Project.
