EU-US partnership could facilitate Romanian exports to the US
Romanian companies that export products to the USA, which are located in 130 cities and towns in Romania, could benefit from better export conditions, following the implementation of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which the European Union and the USA are currently negotiating, said Cecilia Malmstrom, the European Commissioner for Trade.
A lot of these companies indirectly export cars and components to the US. They do it through other European countries, which then export these products to the US. Not all of these Romanian companies are large, but they are spread across the whole country, according to Malmstrom.
“Over 60% of the Romanian exporters are small and medium-sized companies,” she added, cited by local Agerpres.
The TTIP would facilitate the exports for companies in the European Union. It would reduce the bureaucracy and simplify the export procedures.
Romania’s demands for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) include 30 proposals. The US tariffs on footwear and ceramics should be completely removed, the energy market between US and Europe should be fully liberalized, and Romania should have full access to the US high-end technology, according to the 30 proposals presented by Romanian MEP Sorin Moisa, reports local Capital.ro.
The standards in the car industry should also be harmonized, so that Romania could export more to the US, said Moisa. However, Romania wants to protect its poultry industry, because the European standards that the local producers need to comply with are more stringent and expensive than those in the US.
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is the largest partnership of this kind that has ever been negotiated by the European Union and the USA.
