Romania wants EUR 1 bln EU funds to develop its Danube Delta
Romania plans to draw EUR 1 billion worth of European funds for the development of the infrastructure and tourism in the Danube Delta, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said in a press conference.
“Romania has EUR 1 billion in EU funds allotted for the Danube Delta, in the 2014-2020 budget period. I have just talked about this with the Regional Policies Commissioner, Corina Cretu,” Victor Ponta said in the opening of Romania’s Tourism Fair, on Thursday, March 12.
“May all the potential beneficiaries, public or private, spend this money to develop the infrastructure, to maintain the biodiversity and to develop tourism in the Danube Delta,” he added, according to Agerpres.
The Danube Delta, which spans over more than 3,400 square kilometers, is the second largest river delta in Europe. It is a biosphere reservation, and it is part of the UNESCO world heritage.
However, despite its uniqueness and its beauty, the Danube Delta is not a developed tourist destination.
