European Court for Human Rights rules compensation for Romanian beaten by the police
A Romanian who complained that he was beaten by policemen while he was under investigation will receive a compensation of EUR 7,500 because state authorities failed to conduct an effective investigation in this case ,according to a ruling of the European Court for Human Rights ECHR.
Romanian Marian Flămânzeanu complained to ECHR that he was the subject of inhuman and degrading treatment when he was beaten by policemen from his home village Letca Noua. The incident took place during his arrest and investigation, according to APADOR-CH, which represented the Romanian, reports local Mediafax.
Flămânzeanu also complained that the police officers from Teleorman Inspectorate, which did the questioning, beat him in order to make him recognize that he has committed a series of thefts.
ECHR found that the state authorities failed to conduct an effective investigation in this case. The state now has to pay EUR 7,500 to Marian Flămânzeanu for moral damages.
