The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz (in picture), who is currently on two day visit to Romania, said he will support the Romanian authorities in including Constantin Brancusi's works exhibited in Targu Jiu in the UNESCO lists. Schulz, who visited Targu Jiu, was accompanied by the Environment Minister Rovana Plumb and by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Zgonea.

The EP president visited the Infinity Column and the table of Silence, the Chairs Alley and the Kiss Gate, all sculpted by Brancusi.

Romania's Prime Minister Victor Ponta traveled with Schulz to Targu Jiu but did not attend the walk to the city's parks and monuments, as he launched his candidacy for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies, representing Targu Jiu.

Romanian media suggested Schulz' visit aimed at supporting the PM when launching his candidacy. Schulz is in Romania for October 30 and 31, during which time he will meet a number of government representatives and President Traian Basescu. He will also address the Chamber of Deputies and Senate at the People's Palace, where he will meet politicians from government and opposition. The European Parliament President will finish off his visit to Romania this evening at the University of Political Studies and Public Administration, where he will award a PhD, give a speech and debate with students.
