Bucharest aparthotel Starlight to close down for conversion into offices

18 April 2013

The four – star Starlight Suite Hotel in Bucharest will close down in the beginning of June, after the building owner decided to turn the hotel area into offices, Romania-Insider.com has learned. Soravia Management opened the Metropolis Center building in 2009, when the hotel chain invested EUR 8 million in opening the Bucharest unit. The aparthotel has 78-rooms and shares the building with offices and a retail area. The decision to expand the office area cites economic reasons.

Metropolis Center hosts the headquarters of several companies in Romania, such as Reckitt Benckiser, which occupies some 1,000 sqm, DLA Piper, EBRD and Citroen, among others. The multifunctional project Metropolis, opened on the site of a former printing house whose facade was kept in the design, covers some 27,800 sqm, out of which 11,000 for offices on seven floors. The rest is shared between the retail galleria at the ground floor, the Loft restaurant and the Starlight aparthotel.

Starlight hotel opened in 2009 following a 20-year lease between Soravia and the hotel chain Starlight Suiten. Starlight runs six hotels, three in Vienna, two in Budapest, and one in Bucharest.
