Extra excise on fuel comes into force in Romania today
The extra excise on fuel enters into force today, and fuel prices are expected to increase by RON 0.16 (EUR 0.03) per liter for diesel and gas.
A second increase will apply from October 1.
Romania’s Government approved at the end of August the fuel excise increase in two stages, on September 15 and October 1.
Finance minister Ionut Misa said that introducing the extra excise on fuel would generate a price increase of RON 0.16 per liter for all types of fuels. This will take place in stages "in order not to create a consumption shock that can generate price increases, automatically lower consumption and affect the state budget," Misa said.
Fuel prices have begun increasing shortly after the measure was announced.
