Fewer foreign visitors to Romania in the first half of 2011

The number of foreign visitors in Romania registered at the border checkpoints was 3.31 million in the first half of this year, down 0.5 percent over the same period in 2010, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). More than 90 percent of the total foreign visitors came from the European countries.

Over a half of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania came from the EU countries, most of them from Hungary (37.1 percent), Bulgaria (18.7 percent), Germany (8.6 percent), Italy (8.3 percent), and Austria and Poland (with 4.2 percent each).

The net use of accommodation places in the first half of 2011 was 22.2 percent in the total tourist accommodation, up 0.1 percentage points from first half of 2010. Arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, registered at the border checkpoints, were 746,900 in June, 2011, up 9 percent compared to June, 2010.
