FinMin wants goods seized by Romania’s tax agency to be sold online

07 January 2019

Finance minister Eugen Teodorovici supports the idea of selling online the goods seized by the tax agency ANAF.

In this case, the state would no longer make an assessment, the market being the one setting the price, the minister explained at local TV station Antena 3, according to local Economica.net. Teorovici believes that such a change would help the state save money.

Eugen Teodorocivi said there are “hundreds, thousands of cars” blocking the customs points for years, in addition to many other goods confiscated by the state authorities, such as clothing items.

“What do the ministry or ANAF do in this case? Spend money to make assessments. Assessments that are not justifying the price, because they will not be sold at that price, and in the meantime their price drops. What we’re planning to do? All of these goods, cars, can be sold online, by auction, without an assessment made by the state, as the market will be the one applying the correct price,” Teodorovici said.

In the case of houses, the starting price will be the one set by the notary, and the highest-bidder will get the house, according to the minister. This way, “the state will no longer have to spend any money.”
