Opinion poll: Most Romanians trust the firefighters and the Army

27 November 2017

The Fire Department, the Army and the schools are the most trusted institutions in Romania, according to a CURS opinion poll carried out in November.

More than 80% of the poll’s respondents said they trust the firefighters, while 71% trust the Army, 66% have confidence in the school system, 61% trust the Church, and 59% have confidence in the Police, reports local Mediafax.

Meanwhile, 45% trust the mass media, 44% have confidence in the City Hall, 39% trust the Presidency, 24% - the Justice system, 24% - the Government, 20% - the Parliament, and only 19% - political parties.

If presidential elections would be organized next Sunday, most respondents would vote for current President Klaus Iohannis (supported by the National Liberal Party - PNL), namely 37%, and Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea (supported by the Social Democratic Party - PSD), who would also get 37% of votes. Meanwhile, Senate president Calin Popescu-Tariceanu (supported by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe – ALDE) would receive 13% of votes, and Cristian Diaconescu (from the Popular Movement Party – PMP) would get 9% of votes.

However, PSD would once again win the parliamentary elections if they were to be organized next Sunday, with a score of 43%, the poll shows. The party won the parliamentary elections organized in Romania in December 2016 with a score of 46%. PNL would get only 27% of votes, and ALDE would receive 9% of votes.

A total of 1,067 people participated in the poll, all aged 18 and over.
