Over 1,000 Romanians have already cashed in private pensions worth a total of EUR 342,000, two years and a half from the start of the private pensions system, according to the Private Pensions Surveillance Commission system.

The 1,000 payments have been triggered by the death of participants or by invalidity cases for participants which made an exit from the state pensions system. Normally, the first private pensions will be paid within 20 years. There are 5.2 million contributors to the private pensions system.
