First Mercure hotel in Romania to open downtown Bucharest this fall
Hotel chain Accor will open the first Mercure unit in Romania this fall, close to the Romanian Athenaeum in capital Bucharest. This will be the first hotel under the Mercure brand in Romania, according to Mediafax newswire, which quotes sources on the market.
The investment in the hotel will come from Dentotal Investment, owned by a Romanian family. They will invest EUR 10 million in the new hotel, which will be managed by Accor. The opening is set for November 2014.
The hotel on the George Enescu street will have 114 rooms, a fitness hall, two conference halls, and will have four stars. It will be named Mercure Bucharest City Center.
The hotel will compete not only with other four-star units in Bucharest, but also with five-star hotels located in the vicinity: Athenee Palace Hilton, also close to the Athenaeum, and Radisson Blu, close by on Calea Victoriei.
In Romania, Accor runs five hotels, a Pullman unit, a Novotel one, and four Ibis hotels, together 1,221 rooms.
Worldwide, the group runs over 3,500 hotels in 92 countries, under brands such as Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, Pullman, Adagio, ibis, hotelF1 and MGallery.
