First phase of Bucharest’s 5th metro line to be finished by mid-2017, second phase in plan
Work on the Eroilor-Drumul Taberei section of the Bucharest metro Line 5, which is the first phase of the project, is to be completed by mid-2017, Ionel Oprea, technical director of Bucharest metro operator Metrorex, said last week.
The second section of the metro line, which will link Eroilor to Iancului, is also in plan and will most likely be completed in 2021, said transport minister Sorin Buse, reports local News.ro.
The Ministry of Transport will start the tender process for the second phase's design and execution by early November this year. This procedure will last six-nine months, and then the authorities will organize the auction. Next in the process is the design period, followed by the construction period, which will take 36 months, according to the minister.
Thus, the second section of the metro line could be ready by 2021. Bucharest’s Line 6, which will connect the main train station to the airport, should also be completed around that time.

Meanwhile, Bucharest will have a new metro station by the end of December this year.
Sorin Buse participated on Sunday at the Open Day at Laminorului Station event organized by Metrorex. This station, which is the newest stop on Line 4, is to be completed and opened by the end of the year. See pictures below.
“We have the chance to see a modern metro station from all points of view. I am glad that architects and designers have taken into account a better access for Laminorului station. For example, there are 10 escalators installed in this station, compared to 2-4 in other stations,” the minister said after visiting the station.
