Romanian electro-IT retailer sells products worth EUR 43 mln on Black Friday

Romanian electro-IT retailer Flanco recorded sales of RON 200 million (EUR 43 million) during this year’s Black Friday event, up 30% compared to the previous year.

Flanco’s Black Friday event took place between October 27 and November 19.

The online sales rose by 35% compared to the same period last year, Flanco general manager Dragos Sirbu said.

The retailer sold 480,000 products during the Black Friday event. Large appliances were the most popular, with over 60,000 units sold. People also bought over 50,000 kitchen appliances, 40,000 TV sets and over 30,000 smartphones from Flanco on Black Friday.

The company has over 1,500 employees and a network of 124 stores. It is owned by Romanian investor Iulian Stanciu, the CEO of eMAG, the biggest local online retailer.

eMAG had sales of RON 360 million (EUR 77.5 million) in just one day on this year’s Black Friday, up 20% over last year. Stanciu estimates that the total Black Friday sales in Romania reached some RON 1 billion (EUR 215 million) this year.
