Foreign direct investment goes up 11% in Romania in first nine months

Foreign companies carried out direct investment worth EUR 3.14 billion in Romania in the first nine months of this year, up 11% compared to the same period last year, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

By comparison, the foreign direct investment amounted to EUR 2.83 billion in the first nine months of last year.

Equity investments reached EUR 2.75 billion whereas intra-group loans totaled EUR 393 million.

In September, the value of foreign direct investment amounted to EUR 402 million. Last year, the foreign direct investment totaled EUR 3.46 billion, according to revised data BNR published in September.

Foreign direct investment is considered the most beneficial investment by foreign companies in the economy, because it is made long-term and usually has positive effects on the economy and wages.
