Foreign tourists spent almost EUR 300 mln in Romania in the second quarter
Some 531,000 foreign tourists were accommodated in Romanian hotels and boarding houses, in the second quarter of 2014. They spent almost EUR 300 million, according to data from Romania’s statistics institute INS.
About 58% of the foreign tourists traveled to Romania for business purposes. They spent about EUR 193 million, which is almost two thirds of the total expenditure made by non-resident tourists in the second quarter.
Only 42% of the foreign tourists came to Romania for personal purposes, which include holidays, shopping, sports, cultural events, or just to visit friends. They spent about EUR 107 million.
In the first half of the year, 840,000 foreign tourists were registered in Romanian hotels and boarding houses and their total expenditure was close to EUR 500 million.
The INS has no comparable data for the same period of 2013, as it only started issuing reports on foreign tourists’ spending at the beginning of this year.
