Former Romanian judge dies while serving prison sentence
Former Romanian judge Stan Mustata, who was serving a jail sentence of eight years and six months for bribery, suffered a heart attack on the night of Wednesday, August 8, to Thursday, August 9, and died in a hospital.
The magistrate, who was imprisoned for over two years, suffered from cancer and some kidney problems, local Mediafax reported.
Stan Mustata got the final sentence of eight years and six months in prison in 2016, after the prosecutors proved that he received bribes in exchange for favorable court decisions. Court clerk Mariana Curea also got a prison sentence of four years and three months in the same case.
Both the former judge and court clerk were arrested at the end of April 2014.
