The Bucharest Tribunal sentenced the former director of the Romanian Post Mihai Toader to ten years and six months in jail for abuse of office.

He acquired software products from a Cyprus-based company, at a price 12 times overstated. The damage is estimated at EUR 6.5 million.

The Bucharest Court convicted in the same case Emanoil Lepadatu, former economic executive director, Andrei Marinescu, former strategic development executive director and Vasile Barbulet, former IT head with the Romanian Post.

Each of the three received ten years and six months in prison for abuse of office, reports local Mediafax.

All four of them must pay the Romanian Post EUR 6.5 million, plus the corresponding legal interest rate.

The court also ordered to maintain seizure on two buildings that belong to Emanoil Lepadatu and Mihai Toader, one building owned by Vasile Barbulet and one owned by Andrei Marinescu.

The decision is not final and can be appealed.
