Four dead, 57 injured in bus accident in SE Romania
Four people died and 57 were injured Thursday morning in Tulcea town, southeastern Romania, after a bus transporting tens of passengers plunged off a dam linking Tulcea to its industrial site. The town's protection dam is used for traffic as the road to the industrial area is currently under repair. The local Inspectorate for Emergency Situations representative Vasile Macsimov said the bus was transporting at least 45 people, mostly women. He said the bus skidded off the dam as the roadway was wet.
The floor of the bus yielded and passengers were caught under the coachwork. Emergency intervention teams arrived at the site of the accident and the injured people were rushed to hospital.
Health Ministry deputy state secretary Raed Arafat said 57 people were injured in the accident and were transported to the Tulcea Hospital, adding that two Interior Ministry helicopters with emergency medical teams onboard are on their way to the hospital.
