Four Romanian photographers compete for the Sony World Photography Awards
Four Romanian photographers have been selected on this year’s shortlist of the world’s biggest photography competition, the Sony World Photography Awards.
They are competing to win their category and the overall Professional and Open photographer of the Year and a share of the USD 30,000 prize. The winners will be announced at a Gala Ceremony in London, on April 21.
Romanian photographer Remus Tiplea has been shortlisted in the Professional Daily Life category for his photos capturing moments from the everyday life of a gipsy group.
Oana Stoian is on the shortlist in the Professional Staged category, and Amnon Gutman has been selected in the Professional Current Affairs category. Another Romanian, Laurian Ghinitoiu, competes in the Open Architecture category.
The number of entries from Romania increased by 60% compared to last year while the total number of entries worldwide was 33% higher, topping 230,000. Photographers from 186 countries have submitted their creations to this competition.
“This year’s shortlist is defined by its sheer internationality, with over 270 photographers from nearly 60 countries being represented, the most in the awards’ nine-year history,” according to a press release of the organizers.
All shortlisted images will be exhibited as part of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London from April 22 until May 8, and published in the 2016 edition of the awards’ book.
