French group Renault to increase automation of its Romanian Dacia factory
The increase in salaries for the 14,000 workers of the Dacia car plant in Pitesti and the need for higher productivity have determined French group Renault to consider increasing automation at the Romanian plant.
“If we will continue to increase salaries every year like we have done so far then we will also increase the automation of the plant, which is currently at 10% and can be increased. But this will negatively impact the number of employees. At a certain moment in the future, the factory will be fully automated, but we need a careful and gradual approach,” said Nicolas Maure, general manager of Dacia, quoted by Ziarul Financiar.
Dacia makes some 320,000 cars a year. Last year, Dacia had a turnover of EUR 4.16 billion, which made it the largest company in Romania.
