FrieslandCampina extends contract with Unilever to produce Napoca ice cream until 2014 at Romanian factory
Dairy maker FrieslandCampina Romania has extended the contract with Unilever Romania and will continue to produce the Napoca ice cream in its plant in Baciu, Cluj county, at least until end-2014, the company has recently announced.
“The FrieslandCampina plant in Baciu has the expertise to produce Napoca, a brand with tradition in Romania. Our plant in Baciu produces 45 flavors of Napoca ice cream,” said Jozsef Szasz, Supply Chain Director FrieslandCampina Romania.
In 2009, the dairy company decided to sell the ice cream business under the Napoca brand to Unilever. However, FrieslandCampina Romania continued to manufacture the ice cream products for Unilever at their plant in Cluj.
Earlier this year, the dairy producer also announced its decision to close down the production location in Taga, Romania, as of June 1. The factory employed 12 people.
FrieslandCampina Romania is part of the Netherlands’-based dairy company FrieslandCampina. On the Romanian market, the company is present through its brands Napolact, Milli, Oke and Dots.
In 2012, FrieslandCampina had total net revenues of EUR 10.3 billion, up 7 percent over the previous year and a profit of EUR 274 million, a year-on-year increase of over 26 percent.
