The Western Romanian city of Timisoara will have its own waste incinerator which will provide electricity and heating in the city. Work on the first such incinerator will start in April this year, after the bid proceedings are complete. The project is worth some EUR 85 million, VAT included, and the Timisoara city hall together with Colterm,the heating company, together own 70 percent of it. The rest is controlled by the company which will build and run the incinerator.

Swiss company Raroma, registered in Germany, is the private investor in this project. The bid proceedings will be officially over in March this year. The Timisoara mayor Nicolae Robu said heating bills will be down by 25 percent in the first month after production, provided gas and coal prices do not go up.

Talks are on for two similar incinerators in the city, with the foreign companies in need of land plot for their projects.
