Gas consumption in Romania, down by 4.5% in 2015
Romania used 121.1 million MWh of natural gas last year, down by 4.5% compared to 2014, according to the Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE).
The price of gas imported from Russia totaled RON 89.8 per MWh in December last year, 18% higher compared to the price of gas from domestic production that was traded on the centralized market (RON 75.4 per MWh), reports local Capital.
In the previous years, the Russian gas was twice as expensive as the natural gas extracted from Romania. In 2008, the price of Russian gas reached USD 530 per thousand cubic meters whereas in December 2015 the price was USD 232 per thousand cubic meters.
In December, Romania’s gas imports only covered 7.5% of the domestic consumption, compared to a quarter before the economic crisis.
