Austrian full-service logistics company Gebrüder Weiss, one of the main players in the Romanian transport and logistics solutions market, has begun the construction of a new logistics terminal located South-East to the capital city, in Popești Leordeni, a new project estimated to require EUR 20 million of investments.

The construction of the new terminal has already begun, and it will be put into use at the end of this year.

"This one, along with those from Arad, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca, Bacău, Brasov, Constanta and Craiova, accumulates a total storage and cross-docking area of over 85,000 sqm," said Viorel Leca, General Manager of Gebrüder Weiss Romania.

"The increasing congestion of the daily traffic in Bucharest has made necessary a second hub in the east of the city," stated Thomas Moser, Director and Regional Manager Black Sea/CIS Gebrüder Weiss.

The new facility will be strategically located in the vicinity of the A2 highway and the future ring of Bucharest A0 and will increase the company's storage capacity, ultimately translating into the diversification of the portfolio and the number of customers.

The new terminal will have a total area of 17,000 sqm, of which 13,500 sqm of storage space and 3,400 sqm for cross-docking activities. It will provide customers with the full range of services – FTL (Full Truck Load), LTL (Less Than Truckload), groupage transport, warehousing and logistics, customs and home delivery through Home Delivery. It will also be a class A warehouse, in accordance with the requirements of the ADR – agreement on the international carriage of dangerous goods by road.

The building will be an efficient one by using photovoltaic panels, air conditioning for the building and charging stations for electric cars and trucks.

The new facility will accommodate 90 employees, of which 60 are engaged in the storage area and 30 in the office area.
