Pharmaceutical producer Gedeon Richter posted revenues of EUR 40.7 million in Romania in the first three months of the year, which was up 10.9 percent on the same period last year, according to the company. The company's distribution and retail arm in Romania made EUR 36.6 million in sales, up 7.3 percent on Q1 2009, which was mainly due to the currency exchange appreciation. Gedeon Richter's subsidiary in Romania covered 95 percent of the group's distribution and retail sales.

Gedeon Richter runs 120 pharmacies, whose sales were of EUR 7.5 million, an increase of 27 percent on the first three months of last year.

The Hungarian pharmaceutical group also runs a production unit in Romania, at Targu Mures.
