General director of Romanian railway freight carrier, dismissed

21 December 2016

Mihut Craciun, the general director of Romanian railway freight carrier CFR Marfa, was removed from office by the company’s board of administration, “following the analysis of his management activity,” the company announced on Tuesday.

Craciun had been appointed eight months ago by the Transport Ministry after a selection process. He previously worked in beverage companies such as Coca-Cola and Red Bull. He was also a sales director at the tobacco producer Japan Tobacco International (JTI).

In the following period, Pavel Barculet, who is now director of the economic-financial department, will take over as interim general manager, until a new selection process for a new GM is finalized. The appointment of professional managers to state-owned companies is regulated by a bill issued in 2011.

CFR Marfa diminished its losses to RON 3.5 million per month between May and August, which means a reduction of 80% compared to the first four months of the year, when the monthly losses reached RON 17.5 million.
