Owner of Romanian travel agency dies in apparent suicide

17 October 2017

Local investor George Negru, owner of the Omnia Tourism travel agency, died in an apparent suicide, market sources told News.ro yesterday. His death was also announced on the agency's website.

The investor probably committed suicide due to financial problems, according to some sources.

The agency launched this spring early-booking offers for the autumn of 2018, which is unusual in the field, sources told Profit.ro.

However, the company has recorded profit in the last years, as well as a growing turnover. Omnia Tourism saw a turnover of RON 2.7 million (EUR 590,000) last year, up from RON 2.2 million (EUR 480,000) in 2016. Its net profit amounted to about 350,000 (EUR 77,000) in 2016, compared to over RON 545,000 (EUR 118,000) in 2015.
