German food retailer becomes largest private employer in Romania

The largest 100 employers in Romania have 441,000 employees, namely 8.4% of the total personnel in the economy.

Food retailer Kaufland, part of the German group Schwarz, ranked first in 2014, with over 22,300 employees, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

OMV Petrom, which was traditionally the largest private employer in recent years, had 16,500 employees in 2014, 2,500 employees down compared to 2013.

The average wage in Kaufland amounts to some EUR 427 gross per month, whereas, within OMV Petrom, the average salary is about EUR 1,914 gross per month.
