German group buys locomotives from Romanian producer

Romanian company Softronic, the Craiova-based producer of electric locomotives and frames, sold two locomotives to German group DB Schenker in December 2015.

DB Schenker Rail AG, the largest rail freight operator in Europe, has acquired 15 locomotives from the Romanian producer in the last four years for its subsidiaries in Romania and Hungary, reports local Wall-street.ro.

At an average price of EUR 2.5 million per unit, the value of the contracts between the two companies amounted to EUR 37.5 million.

DB Schenker Rail Romania has been active since 2000. The company delivers transport services of coal, steel, cement and vehicles. It owns almost 50 locomotives and has about 400 employees.
