GfK: Romanians' expectations for income growth reach record level
Romanians' expectations for income growth rose significantly in the first quarter of this year, reaching a record high.
They were supported by the decline in unemployment and by more optimistic perceptions on the future evolution of the economy, according to a GfK study.
“Income expectations in Romania are in this positive trend, rising sharply to 33.7 points at the end of the quarter. This is the highest value since the country was first included in the consumer consumption study in May 2001,” according to GfK.
Romanians are ready again to make bigger purchases that exceed their daily needs. The purchase availability reached 16.4 points at the end of March, the highest value since September 2006.
The economic expectations of consumers in Romania rose to 18.3 points at the end of the first quarter, a level similar to October 2015. One year ago, the indicator was at 3.3 points. These figures show that Romanians have a much better picture of the future than 12 months ago.
