Spanish Glovo brings fast on-demand delivery app to Bucharest

25 May 2018

Glovo, an on-demand delivery app that allows users to purchase, receive or send goods in less than an hour, is now available in Bucharest.

Glovo works as a marketplace from where users can order and send anything themselves. Some of the product categories, such as cooked food or food products, are predefined but the app allows users to order anything. Moreover, users can send mail and packages with fast delivery anywhere in the city.

In Bucharest, Glovo has partnerships with restaurants such as El Torito, Speed Pizza, Ganesha, Donatino, and Aria Burger, with flower shops, and with confectionery and pastry shops.

Some of the service's couriers will make the deliveries using scooters or bikes, thus helping to ease the congested Bucharest traffic.

The general manager of Glovo Romania is Victor Răcariu, a former chief of international markets officer with retailer eMag and head of business at Fashion Days Group.

Estimates show that the Romanian delivery services market is expected to double by 2022 to reach EUR 450 million, according to data quoted by Glovo.

The startup Glovo was established in 2015 in Barcelona, Spain. It is now present in over 60 cities, among them Paris, Madrid, and Sao Paolo, in ten countries on three continents. Over 1 million orders are delivered monthly through the app, with an average delivery time of less than 35 minutes. The app has over 500,000 active users and 5,600 partners all over the world.

Alongside Romania, in May 2018 Glovo is also launching in Egypt and Turkey. The app can be downloaded for free from the App Store or the Google PlayStore.
