Paintings by well-known Romanian artists such as Nicolae Grigorescu, Ştefan Luchian, Theodor Pallady, Gheorghe Petraşcu, Nicolae Tonitza, and Camil Ressu will go on sale at the Artmark Winter Auction to be organized at the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel on Tuesday, December 20.

The auction’s star is the Tarancute (De la fantana) painting by Nicolae Grigorescu, estimated at EUR 90,000 – 160,000. The collector selling the artwork, which is to be included in the national cultural heritage, hopes that a museum will purchase the painting, so that it would be exhibited for the public.

Another painting signed Nicolae Grigorescu will be auctioned on December 20, namely the one named Care cu boi la amiaza, estimated at EUR 25,000 – 45,000.

Nicolae Grigorescu (1838 – 1907) is one of the best-known Romanian painters. His fame has gone past national borders with his works selling at various auctions in the U.S. and Europe.

Three nudes by Nicolae Tonitza will also be on sale at this auction. A piece by Romania's most famous contemporary painter, Adrian Ghenie, will also be auctioned. The painting is called Bridge (Pod) ans is valued at EUR 7,000 to EUR 12,000.
