Group of Romanians and Russians, accused of economic espionage
Several Romanians and Russians are accused of economic espionage for Russia. According to prosecutors, the employees of a Romanian firm gave away several classified documents about Romania's copper reserves.
A 42-year old Russian whose name was not made public was caught at Bucharest airport when trying to leave the country with documents and maps issued by the Romanian state and including classified information about Romania's copper and rare metals in the Moldova Nouă and Suvorov areas.
The prosecution said the management of Ipromin gave away the documents to the Russian businessman. The Russian is accused of espionage in this file and the investigation continues.
This came only days after another Russian, member of the Russian embassy in Bucharest, hit a Romanian on a street crossing, then refused the drink driving test. Romania asked for the diplomat's immunity to be lifted, but Russia refused and withdrew the diplomat back home.
