Gustav Klimt exhibition to be held at Peles Castle in Romania mountain resort Sinaia
The exhibition “Gustav Klimt and Kunstlerkompanie” featuring paintings commissioned by King Carol I of Romania from Viennese artists Gustav Klimt and Franz Matsch while in their youth, will be on between September 15 and December 15 at Peles Castle.
The exhibition will be open on Wednesdays between 11:00 – 17:00 and from Thursday to Sunday, between 9:15 – 17:00. Entry tickets are RON 6 for adults and RON 1.5 for students.
The paintings date from between 1883 and 1886 in the Kunstler- Compagnie workshop, and can be grouped into three categories - The Peles Castle Gallery of ancestors, ancestors of the king, from the House of Hohenzollern, copies of the works of great masters and original works in the Theater Hall and on the Ladder of honor’s roof.
Kunstler-Compagne was a artist's workshop, active between 1879 and 1892, that produced painting for the Austro-Hungarian Empire and beyond. In 1886, the company was hired for large projects of decoration in places like Hermesvilla (owned by Empress Elisabeth of Habsburg) and monumental buildings such as the Ringstrasse, Burgtheater and the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
Peles Castle is a Neo-Renaissance castle in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, on an existing medieval route linking Transylvania and Wallachia, built between 1873 and 1914 by the order of King Carol I.
