Half of the Romanians do not comply with antibiotics treatment
More than half of Romanian patients undergoing treatment with antibiotics give up or no longer comply with the treatment after three days of therapy, over 34% forget to take at least one dose during the treatment and only 32.6% of them strictly follow the dosing interval, according to the pharmaceutical producer Sandoz, quoted by local Mediafax.
Failure to respect the treatment can give birth to antibiotic resistant bacteria, and the disease can last much longer and even bring about more serious complications, requiring much longer and more expensive treatment, according to Sandoz.
European Antibiotic Awareness Day is marked annually on 18 November.
Sandoz, the generic pharmaceuticals division of Novartis, owns an antibiotics factory in Romania, in Targu Mures. Novartis has invested EUR 40 million so far in Romania and plans new investments of EUR 13 million in 2014-2015 to double its local production capacity.
