The Cemetery of St. Lazar or "Doina" as people know it in Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova, is one of the largest cemeteries in Europe with an area of 2 million sqm. The cemetery, opened in 1966, has far more than 250,000 graves and is divided into 266 sectors.
The cemetery is not a forbidden place but not a lot of people choose this place to spend their free time. The only live inhabitants of this place are the diggers. One of the 'living ghosts' in the cemetery is Mrs. Eleonora. She has been preparing her resting place for the last 10 years, even if she is healthy and has only 62 years.
So far, HBO produced seven original documentaries in Romania, namely "Weddings, music and videos" (Nunti, muzici si casete video) directed by Tudor Giurgiu, “Reveletion of drivers” (Apocalipsa dupa soferi) directed by Alexandru Solomon, “Australia” by Claudiu Mitcu, “The world seen by Ion B.” (Lumea vazuta de Ion B.) by Alexander Nanau, “The happy circus” (Circul vesel) directed by Claudiu Mitcu, “The Shukar Collective Project” by Matei-Alexandru Mocanu, and ‘Victoria” directed by Adi Voicu and Ana Vlad.
