Head of Bucharest Chamber of Commerce sentenced to jail for misuse of EU funds
The President of Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB), Sorin-Petre Dimitriu, was sentenced by the Bucharest Court to four years and one month in jail, in a case involving fraud with European funds.
The Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry was also sentenced to paying a fine of RON 70,000 (EUR 15,000) for offenses against the financial interests of the European Union. The decision is not final and can be appealed, according to local Mediafax.
In the same case, Gabriel-Dan Mihuţ (CCIB general manager) was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment, Gabriela Dumitriu (Sorin Dimitriu's advisor) got a 2 years suspended sentence, and Laurenţia Vasilescu (CCIB economic director) got 3 years imprisonment with 120 days' community service.
Sorin-Petre Dimitriu and the other members of the CCIB leadership were indicted by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) for corruption offenses, in October 2014.
