Heavy rain affects glass ceiling of newly opened Romanian National Library headquarters
The heavy rain in Bucharest on Tuesday afternoon, which inundated streets in various areas of the capital city Bucharest also took by surprise the employees of the National Library, as the glass ceiling of the library's new building started leaking, already damaging the floor in the Library's large atrium.
The Library inaugurated its building earlier in May, after construction work, carried on by Aedificia Carpati, started in 2009. The library has seven floors above ground and two below, a 30 meter atrium, glass elevators and glass ceilings and LED lit floors.
Work started on the building, originally planned as a library, during Ceausescu’s regime, but construction came to a halt after the 1989 revolution. The building then stood half finished until 2009.
