Heavy snow, blizzard to hit Romania, then very cold New Year’s Eve
Heavy snow and blizzard are expected to hit most of Romania on Sunday night (December 28/29), with the south-eastern region most affected. It will start snowing on Sunday evening and it will continue for most of Monday, December 29. A code yellow for snowfall has been issued for most of Romania for this period. Authorities have also issued a code orange for blizzard for the south of Moldova and the north of the Muntenia and Oltenia regions, as these will be most affected. The code orange targets the Bacau, Vaslui, Vrancea and Galati counties in southern Moldova, as well as the neighbouring counties of Buzau, Braila, Ialomita, Prahova, Dambovita and Arges (see map below). A code red for extreme blizzard could be issued later tonight (Sunday, December 28) if the weather get worse. The snowfall is expected to stop on Monday evening.
